The Golden State Warriors offseason mindset could be addition by subtraction

The most impactful addition of this offseason will be to resign Bob Myers to a long term deal. Joe Lacob must put on the table whatever it takes to retain the best General Manager in the National Basketball Association, and the architect of the current dynasty.

The Warriors should not repeat the costly GP2 mistake, and need to retain Donte Divincenzo should Donte opts out.

The Warriors could trade Andrew Wiggins to continue Jonathan Kuminga's development as a starter in Kerr's rotation. The best return for the loss of the all star is to send him back to his home country of Canada for the Raptors' twenty-five year old, 6'7" 3&D wing, O.G. Anunoby.

Wiggins' new four-year deal will cost the Dubs 27.25 million dollars next season. Anunoby has two years left on his current deal with a cost of 17.357 million dollars. The theoretical trade would be Wiggins to the Raptors for Anunoby and a future pick or picks and a 10 million dollar trade exemption. The exemption would allow the cap room to extend both Green and DiVincenzo if they decide to opt-out of their current contracts.

If Myers extends both of their contracts, their salaries would not hit the books until the 2024/25 season. The 10 million dollar exemption, if not used, would give Joe Lacob 50 Million dollars in tax relief. Next years' mid-level 5.6 million dollar exemption could be used to extend DiVincenzo , Bob Myers then would have 10 million dollars to sign a freeagent big if Lacob decided to go all-in.

With the promising Patrick Baldwin Jr. adding 2" to his 6'9.5" frame, measured when drafted, has the athleticism, skills level, and basketball IQ to be Kerr's prototypical five. Baldwin has played the five in the Santa Cruz Warriors small-ball rotation. Should Kerr and his staff decide to develop Patrick Baldwin into the future Kevon Looney with the ability to stretch the floor, the twenty-seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft, would need to spend the summer in the weight room adding 10-15 lbs of muscle.
