Don’t Let Go of the Rope

Only three teams have been battle-tested in their path to the conference finals. Boston Vs. Milwaukee, Golden State Vs. Memphis and Dallas Vs. Phoenix, but two have a date at Chase Center in the Western Conference Finals. Dallas will be a challenge, but not as challenging as the Dubs' two series just closed out. The focus of this challenge will be Luka Doncic', a 6'7", 230 lbs, 23-year-old Slovenian point guard cut from the same European basketball cloth as Nikola Jokic, a 7'-0, 284 lbs, 27-year-old Serbian center which Golden State eliminated in the first round of these playoffs.

Doncic is a generational talent with a unique skill set for a point guard. Luka can body-up your largest player on the floor while hitting that deadly one-footed step back from the mid-range or will finish at the rim with both hands. If the Warrior can limit Luka's access to the paint, he will kick the ball out to a teammate for an open shot or find his favorite spots behind the line as Branson and Dinwiddie collapse the Dub's interior defense. Dallas is not known for being a three-point shooting team, but the Mavs destroyed the Suns from a distance, going 19-39 from the arc in their close-out game 7 on the Phoenix's floor.

Dallas has a massive challenge as well. Jason Kidd has the Mavs playing their best defense of the season, but they will have to find the answers for Curry, Thompson, Poole, Wiggins, and an aggressive Draymond Green on the Warrior's offensive end of the floor. Dallas does not have the talent on its roster to meet that challenge. The Warriors in 6, the quest for another championship continues, and a date with Boston Celtics.
