Interrupting the Super Bowl on Sunday, the front office announced what had DubNation and the Warriors’ players on pins and needles; the conclusion was to bring Gary Payton II back home, completing their four-team, four-player trade that sent the twenty-one-year-old, No. 2 overall draft pick, James Wiseman, to the Detroit Pistons.

The Golden State Warriors roster still faces many questions that require answers after completing the GP2 trade. Despite Gary Payton IIs' failed physical, and after much frustration and confusion, the Warriors decided this was the only right answer.

The last thing the thirty-year-old career player needed was to be sent back to the place that treated his injuries so poorly, starting with determining exactly how long Payton will be sidelined, the Warriors have plenty of questions to be answered.

Payton is expected to miss a significant amount of time to his abdominal issue. He is under contract for three years and is someone who should help in the present and future of the team's championship window with their veteran stars.

"I love Gary Payton," Klay Thompson said Wednesday night after opposing Payton in the Warriors' loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. "Just a great pro and a champion. He's just a great guy." Little did Klay Thompson know within 24 hours they would be reunited as

teammates again.

Payton's lifelong dream was to wear a Golden State Warriors uniform. He never truly wanted to leave in free agency; he has experience with the team from the bay and is comfortable with the Warriors training staff that helped the athletically gifted guard's return from a fractured left elbow to play a major role in the 2022 NBA Finals.

Payton was one of the most popular players on the Warriors Roster last year and had the support of a large contingent of players and staff who were fighting for him to stay in the Bay over the offseason. They were 47-24 last season in games that Payton played, and 9-3 in the playoffs.

Golden State's roster is at 14 players, with an open 15th spot. Ryan Rollins, this year’s second-round pick is expected to miss the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his right foot. Andre Iguodala has missed 14 straight with right hip soreness, and now Payton is in street clothes.

Second-year player Moses Moody stepped in and earned Payton's minutes in the Western Conference Finals last season as a rookie when Payton II was injured. Rookie Patrick Baldwin Jr. scored 23 points for the Warriors with nine rebounds and three assists and was a plus-7 on Saturday night in the 116-98 victory over the Windy City Bulls.

Anthony Lamb also scored 23 points with nine rebounds and three assists, along with three blocks and a plus-11 Saturday night for Santa Cruz. That was not the plan before the season started. The two-way player has been active for 42 games and has become a mainstay in Kerr’s rotation. His contract only allows him to be active for 50 NBA games, and there still are 26 remaining in the regular season.

Bob Myers must decide between Anthony Lamb's contributing meaningful minutes as a vital part of Kerr's rotation, or adding a buyout player. Myers will wait until the deadline for adding a player eligible for playoff participation before making his decision.
